The artist column in an album listing looks to be taking from the ‘album artist’ tag but on compilations with Various Artists it, obviously, makes it impossible for tracks to show up on a search for any particular artist. Personally, I’d find it more useful for that column to show the track artist rather than the album artist but maybe I’m in the minority here? Maybe a setting to show either or both?
Hi Wil,
It makes a lot of sense to have the track artist instead of album artist.
I started looking into this, as it is more complicated than what it looks like on the surface. Artists need to be accessible by tap or click and the track artists have not been added to the artist roster and you basically wouldn’t be able to see their profile. So, adding those artists first in the roaster is the priority. This isn’t exactly easy, for many technical reasons.
I’ll keep you posted when I have some succes with this feature.
Lorin
I appreciate you even taking a look at it. Thanks.
Wil
This is a “Me Too” thing - My Compilations are defined as either Compilations=1 or Album Artist = “Various Artists” - Serento currently gives me a “Various Artists” Artist and my compilations are there.
There’s several things here - This is caveated very heavilly by my understanding that massively bloating the database is to be avoided:
- It would be nice to separate these and have a “Compilations” tab along with “Artists” / “Albums” / “Genres” etc.
- It would be nice to show the Artist under the track name at least in a compilation but, ideally in any situation where the AlbumArtist and Artist do not match for the track.
This is half done - Artist details now show in the track lists which is great.
There are a couple of tweaks here to make this perfect:
- Add a “Compilations” tab next to “Albums” or “Genres”
- Don’t show the Artist details in the track view if the Artist name is the same as the Album Artist (for a cleaner screen layout)
